The feed crops anything taller than 2:3, so 1000×1500 is both the recommended and the safest size. Pinterest's own spec sheet reserves space for its overlay: keep text about 270 px from the top, 65 px from the left, 195 px from the right and 790 px from the bottom on a 1000×1500 canvas.
Carousel pins accept 2 to 5 images at 1:1 or 2:3, all the same ratio.
Pinterest accepts files up to 20 MB, but large uploads are recompressed and served small. A 1000×1500 JPEG around 500 KB to 1 MB with light sharpening looks cleaner in the feed than a 5 MB PNG.
