What fits in 300 KB

UPSC asks for a photo and signature between 20 and 300 KB; many corporate HR portals use a similar cap. At 300 KB the tool can usually keep a photo at 1600 px or more with high JPEG quality, so nothing looks compressed. Set Min (KB) to 20 under More options when a minimum applies.

At 300 KB you can expect about 1600 to 1800 px on the long side. The exact number depends on how much fine detail the image has: skies and plain walls compress well, foliage and fabric don't.

Tip: Photos with plain backgrounds compress better than busy ones, which matters for passport-style shots.

How the 300 KB compressor works

  1. Drop or paste the image. Nothing is uploaded; the work happens in your browser, even offline.
  2. The tool encodes the image as JPEG at several quality levels and keeps the one that lands just under 300 KB.
  3. If even the lowest acceptable quality is too big, it reduces the pixels a little and tries again, so the result is the largest image that fits.
  4. Download the file, or share it straight into WhatsApp or the form on a phone.

Every result shows the final size and pixel dimensions before you download. Need a fixed pixel size too? Set Resize to Exact size (crop) and type the width and height.

Who needs exactly this size

This limit is common for UPSC and other applications with a 20–300 KB range, company portals and press kits. If the portal also lists a minimum size (for example "20 KB to 50 KB"), open More options and fill in Min (KB): the tool pads the JPEG so it is never rejected for being too small, without touching the pixels.

Questions people ask

What resolution can I keep under 300 KB?

Typically 1600 to 1800 px on the long side at a quality that shows no visible artifacts.

Does the tool handle the 20 KB minimum for UPSC?

Yes. Type 20 in the Min (KB) field under More options and the exported file will be at least 20 KB and at most 300 KB.

Is compressing to 300 KB free and private?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no upload. The image is processed on your device with the browser's own image engine, and the page keeps working with the internet switched off.

Which formats can I compress?

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (in Safari) and most camera RAW files. The output is JPG by default; you can choose WebP or PNG under More options.
