What fits in 20 KB

Most Indian exam portals want the photo between 20 and 50 KB and the signature between 10 and 20 KB, often at a fixed pixel size. This page caps the file at 20 KB; to hit an exact pixel size as well, choose Exact size (crop) under Resize and type the width and height from your notification (for example 140×60 for an SSC signature, or 200×230 for an IBPS photo).

At 20 KB you can expect roughly 300 to 450 px for a photo (a 3.5×4.5 cm passport photo at 200×230 fits easily), or a 300×80 px signature. The exact number depends on how much fine detail the image has: skies and plain walls compress well, foliage and fabric don't.

Tip: Scan signatures on plain white paper in good light. A grey or yellow background costs kilobytes that the ink then loses.

How the 20 KB compressor works

  1. Drop or paste the image. Nothing is uploaded; the work happens in your browser, even offline.
  2. The tool encodes the image as JPEG at several quality levels and keeps the one that lands just under 20 KB.
  3. If even the lowest acceptable quality is too big, it reduces the pixels a little and tries again, so the result is the largest image that fits.
  4. Download the file, or share it straight into WhatsApp or the form on a phone.

Every result shows the final size and pixel dimensions before you download. Need a fixed pixel size too? Set Resize to Exact size (crop) and type the width and height.

Who needs exactly this size

This limit is common for SSC, IBPS, RRB and state exam signatures, passport-style photos on government portals, and any form with a 20 KB cap. If the portal also lists a minimum size (for example "20 KB to 50 KB"), open More options and fill in Min (KB): the tool pads the JPEG so it is never rejected for being too small, without touching the pixels.

Questions people ask

How do I resize a photo to 20 KB for an exam form?

Set the file size cap to 20 KB, set Resize to Exact size and enter the pixels your form specifies, then drop the photo. Download the JPEG and upload it to the portal.

What pixel size fits in 20 KB?

A normal photo fits at about 300 to 450 px on the long side. A signature on white paper can be larger, around 600×200 px.

My form says 20 to 50 KB. Which page do I use?

Use the 50 KB page and set Min (KB) to 20 under More options, or use this page and raise the cap to 50 in the size box.

Is compressing to 20 KB free and private?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no upload. The image is processed on your device with the browser's own image engine, and the page keeps working with the internet switched off.

Which formats can I compress?

JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (in Safari) and most camera RAW files. The output is JPG by default; you can choose WebP or PNG under More options.
