WhatsApp DP size: a sharp 640×640 square

WhatsApp shows your profile photo as a small circle from a square upload. Crop it here so the face stays centred and the file stays crisp.

Why a DP goes blurry

WhatsApp resizes the profile photo to a small square and shows it inside a circle. When you upload a wide photo the app crops it in a hurry and the face ends up small; when you upload a huge photo it is scaled down with strong compression. Cropping to a tight square around the face at 640 px avoids both and looks the same on every phone.

One square, every app

The same square works as an Instagram profile picture, a Telegram profile photo and an X avatar. Switch the App menu above to export each size from the same crop.

Questions people ask

What is the WhatsApp profile photo size?

A square; 640×640 pixels is plenty. Larger uploads are scaled down and cropped to a circle in the app.

How do I set a full photo as my WhatsApp DP without cropping?

WhatsApp always crops to a square. Choose the square crop here so you control what stays, or add margins in an editor first.
