Optimize blog images for the article where they will appear

Export a photo for the real column width, then review the page. Keep diagrams and screenshots readable instead of applying the photo settings to every image.

Sort article images by what readers need from them

An article may contain a lead photograph, a screenshot, a chart and a small author portrait. Those assets serve different purposes. A photo can tolerate a different encoding choice from a diagram whose tiny labels carry the explanation. Keep the original source for each image and create delivery copies matched to their role in the article.

Measure the content column and inspect the phone layout. A wide comparison diagram may need a simpler source layout rather than a smaller version squeezed into a narrow screen. This tool does not reflow diagram labels, make a chart interactive or create text alternatives. Keep essential information available in the article text. For screenshots, review private details and preserve enough resolution to explain the step, rather than choosing the same target size used for decorative photographs.

Export a photo candidate at useful dimensions

The preset fits inside 1600 by 1600 pixels with WebP output and Light sharpening. It is a starting example for an article image, not a universal blog size. Replace the dimensions based on your layout and responsive candidates. Fit within keeps the whole composition and does not enlarge smaller sources. If you need a specific header shape, use a deliberate exact crop and inspect it separately.

Compare the actual WebP bytes and appearance with a JPEG at the same dimensions. Fine texture, faces and smooth gradients are good checks. Keep PNG for a graphic that needs existing transparency or sharper text, since this tool's WebP export is opaque. Do not repeatedly convert an already compressed article image when you can return to the master. Save clearly named exports so you can regenerate them if the design changes.

Finish optimization in the content system and real page

Upload a sample and check what your content system actually delivers. It may generate responsive sizes or convert the upload again. Reserve the image's space in the layout and use appropriate loading behavior for its position. An article image far down the page has different loading needs from the first image visible when the page opens. The converter cannot set that markup for you.

Check the published draft on a phone and a large display. Confirm the crop, caption, alternative text and surrounding links. A smaller file is useful evidence about the asset, but it is not a guarantee of better Core Web Vitals or rankings. Measure the page when making performance claims. For an image library, test representative photographs and graphics before batching. Process each group using settings suited to its content, and keep a route back to the original sources. Everything in the conversion happens in your browser.

Test the image that carries the article's explanation

Start with the most information-dense figure rather than the decorative lead photograph. A screenshot showing a menu label or a diagram naming parts of a machine is a useful test. Place it in the article draft and read it at the phone column width. If it fails there, provide a clearer crop, a larger view or explanatory text in the article. Do not lower every image to the same small byte target just because a simple lead photo survives it. Readers need to understand the figure, while the file and page implementation should avoid unnecessary work and transfer size.

Questions people ask

Should every blog image use WebP?

Compare formats by role. WebP can suit opaque photographs, while PNG may be useful for transparency or small diagram text. Check your content system and actual outputs.

Will this fix a slow article by itself?

It only exports image files. Responsive selection, loading order, layout, scripts and other page work still affect performance. Test the real article.

Can the same file be the hero and every thumbnail?

It can, but one large file may waste bytes in small slots and one small file may look poor in a hero. Prepare suitable candidates for your layout.
