Treat detail images and listing cards as different assets

A product card needs a clear overall shape at a small display size. A detail view may need readable packaging text, visible stitching or a close look at a surface finish. One tiny export should not be expected to do both jobs. Keep the original photograph and prepare different delivery copies when your store supports separate listing and zoom images.

Before compressing, decide whether the product should fill the frame or retain space for a consistent catalog layout. Fit within preserves the whole photograph, including any existing background. Exact size crops the photo and may remove a handle, strap or edge. The tool does not add matching borders or remove a background. Make a consistent composition in the source editor when the store needs every product positioned on an identical canvas.

Use the product's smallest useful feature as your test

The starting export fits inside 1600 by 1600 pixels, uses JPEG at 90% quality and applies Light sharpening. This is a catalog example, not a marketplace rule. Check the requirements of the store or listing service you actually use, then change dimensions or add a byte cap only when needed.

Inspect the feature that matters to the sale. That might be a model number, a jewelry setting, a fabric weave or the edge of a transparent bottle. Compare the result at the listing size and in the larger product view. If a small label becomes unreadable, use a larger export or a separate detail photo. Sharpening cannot recreate letters that disappeared during a severe resize. Strong edge contrast can also make metal, skin and textured materials look unnatural, so compare against the source.

Review backgrounds and publish a representative sample

White product backgrounds make small compression flaws easier to spot near edges and soft shadows. Check for halos around a dark object and banding in a smooth backdrop. If the source is a cutout with transparency, keep PNG output; JPEG and this tool's WebP exports flatten it onto white. A white backdrop may suit a listing, but it is a different asset from a transparent cutout.

Test one exported image in your actual store before converting a full catalog. The store may generate thumbnails, crop cards or process uploads again. View a phone listing, an expanded image and any zoom behavior. Include useful alternative text and keep filenames tied to the correct product. Group similar photo types in a batch, inspect the difficult examples and keep separate settings for transparent logos or packaging graphics. Conversion runs on your device and does not replace the source photos.

Compress a photo

Test one difficult material before a catalog batch

Use a product with both a fine label and a textured or reflective surface for your first export. Check the label in the normal listing view, then inspect the texture in the larger view. If the card is clear but the enlarged image is not useful, keep a separate larger candidate rather than increasing every thumbnail. Test a white object on white as well: subtle shadows may distinguish its shape, and aggressive compression or sharpening can alter that appearance. Catalog consistency should come from purposeful framing and suitable source photography, while the export preserves the information that customers need to see.

Questions people ask

What size should every product photo be?

There is no single size for every store or view. Check the receiving store's requirements and the real listing and zoom display, then export suitable copies.

Can this make packaging text readable after it becomes tiny?

No. Use enough source resolution or add a dedicated detail photo. Sharpening cannot reconstruct text removed by downsizing.

Can I keep a product cutout transparent?

Yes, with PNG output when the source already has transparency. The tool does not remove backgrounds; JPEG and current WebP output use white.
