Prepare an opening image for your TikTok photo post

Make a clear vertical image from existing artwork, then inspect TikTok's current cover and preview controls. This prepares a still file rather than editing a video.

Choose an opening image that explains the post

A strong opening image tells the viewer what the photo post contains without requiring a long caption inside the artwork. Use the clearest product, result, location, or face that represents the set. If the first image promises something the remaining photos do not show, improving its compression will not solve the mismatch.

This page selects our 1080×1920 vertical photo preset. It does not guarantee that a separate file can be uploaded into every TikTok cover control. Check the options in your actual photo publishing screen first. A still-image export is not the same as choosing a frame from a video or changing a video thumbnail.

Think about the smaller previews where the opening image may appear. Fine decorative text can be attractive in a design editor but disappear in a compact grid. Keep the subject central and the main wording brief if your existing artwork uses it. Edit the source design before resizing when the message depends on a complicated layout.

Keep the subject and words inside a workable crop

Open the source and review the vertical crop. A wide design may lose information from both sides, so make sure a complete word or product feature is not removed. Move the crop deliberately. If no position preserves the essential material, return to the design editor and make a proper vertical composition rather than forcing the file into a different shape.

Inspect existing text after processing. The tool cannot rewrite it, move it independently, add a title, or generate a background. Light sharpening may improve the contrast of resized edges, but it can also create halos around bold letters. Keep the result that reads cleanly at normal size, not the candidate with the most dramatic apparent sharpness.

For photographic covers, compare skin, texture, and smooth gradients in the downloaded JPEG. If your artwork is mostly flat colour and hard text edges, try PNG through Custom and check its resulting size. The best choice depends on the image contents and the publishing route you use.

Review the cover in the complete post workflow

Add the candidate to your TikTok draft and inspect all the preview surfaces the app offers. Keep meaningful details away from places where interface controls or captions overlap them. A composition that works in the full-screen photo can look different in a smaller grid or cover preview, so use those real previews when choosing the final crop.

Read the post without relying entirely on text inside the image. Add useful context through the publishing fields, and check the order of the remaining photos if this is a set. The cover should introduce that sequence rather than feeling like unrelated promotional artwork attached to the front.

Save the original design with the prepared image so you can revise the message later. Reprocessing an already posted cover gives you fewer clean pixels than exporting again from the master. This tool runs image preparation locally and does not access your TikTok account, publish a cover, insert a frame into a video, or control the platform's final image processing. Inspect the finished post after you publish through your own account.

Compare the opening image with the next photo in the set. A close detail on the cover should lead naturally into the rest of the post, rather than making the viewer search for the promised subject afterward.

Questions people ask

Can this add a title to my TikTok cover?

No. Add the title in a design editor or in the publishing controls available to your account, then prepare the finished image here.

Will this change the cover of an existing video?

No. It exports a static image and does not edit video or connect to TikTok.

Why does my opening image look different in a grid?

Different surfaces may use different crops or overlays. Check the actual cover and profile previews before publishing.
