Resize an X header without hiding the important artwork

Choose a wide image, control the crop, and leave room for profile overlays. The header should support your identity even when a smaller screen trims its edges.

A wide header needs a different composition

An X header is much wider than a typical photograph. Cropping a standard landscape image to that shape can remove sky, foreground, or the top of a person's head. Choose a source with enough open space around the subject so the crop can become a narrow band without looking accidental. A portrait is rarely a good starting point for a header that also needs readable wording.

X recommends 1500×500 header images. The recommendation describes the upload shape, not a promise that every pixel remains visible in every profile view. Screen sizes, browser layouts, and the profile picture can affect what appears.

Place essential lettering away from the outside edges and consider where the avatar overlaps the header. Do not build a design whose meaning depends on a small logo in that corner. If your source already contains a slogan in the wrong place, return to the editable artwork; moving the complete crop cannot reposition the words independently.

Resize from a clean source and compare the edges

Select the header preset and open your original file. Move the crop to retain a useful horizontal composition. Pay attention to straight lines in buildings or product photography: the tool crops to the required shape rather than stretching the image, so circles and faces should retain their proportions.

The preset prepares a JPEG with a moderate file budget. Inspect text, gradients, and high contrast borders after processing. A photographic header usually suits JPEG well, while a flat logo composition may be worth exporting as PNG through Custom. Compare the downloaded candidates at the same dimensions before deciding which looks cleaner.

Keep sharpening restrained when the artwork contains thin typography. Edge contrast can help a downscaled photo, but it can also make a pale border appear around dark letters. If the local export looks harsh, reduce sharpening before uploading. If the original itself is fuzzy, recover the design master rather than asking compression settings to repair it.

Review the full profile before calling it finished

Upload the candidate using your X profile controls and inspect the result on a phone and a wider browser window. Check that the avatar does not obscure an important feature, the top and bottom still feel balanced, and the header remains understandable when the page width changes. The platform's own crop preview is the place to confirm the final fit.

Read any text at normal viewing size. A line that looks elegant across a large editor window can become too small in the profile. Reduce the wording in the original design if necessary. Increasing the file size cannot solve a composition that depends on tiny text being read at a distance.

Save the source artwork and prepared header separately. A future announcement or brand update should begin from the original image rather than a screenshot of your current profile. IGCOMPRESSOR handles the local image preparation; it does not sign into X, publish the change, guarantee unmodified delivery, or control how the header is cropped in future interface updates.

Check the left and right ends of a panoramic photograph for partial faces or cut objects. Those fragments can distract from an otherwise good central composition and may deserve a different source image rather than another compression pass.

Questions people ask

Is an X header the same as a post image?

No. A header is a wide profile banner. A post image has a separate job and often needs a different crop.

Why can a correctly sized header still be cropped?

The platform adapts the header to different screens and profile layouts. Keep essential details central and check your live profile on multiple devices.

Can this move my slogan away from the avatar?

It can move the complete crop. Moving only the slogan requires editing the original design layers.
