Crop a landscape image while keeping the useful scene in view

Begin with a 1920 by 1080 export and review the new boundaries. A wide crop should suit the subject and the layout rather than simply fill a rectangle.

Choose the shape around the destination and the source

A wide crop can be useful for a gallery, presentation, website banner or video-related still image. Start by checking the actual slot where it will appear. This preset uses 16:9 at 1920 by 1080 pixels as an example. A shallow website banner or social link preview may need another ratio, and a gallery may work better with the complete original photograph.

Exact size crops images whose proportions differ. A tall source can lose the top and bottom, while a very wide panorama can lose the sides. Fit within preserves the full source but does not add letterboxing to make it a 16:9 file. Keep the original and make a separate delivery copy for each role. The tool does not extend a sky, move a person or generate the missing scene outside the camera frame.

Reposition carefully and inspect more than the center

Add the photo and use the available crop control to move the selected frame. Look at the horizon, rooflines, people and objects near the new boundaries. A centered crop can leave too much sky, cut a person's head or remove the foreground that establishes the scene. Check all four edges before approving the composition.

The cropper changes the selected rectangle; it does not rotate or correct perspective. If the horizon tilts or a building leans, make the correction in a source editor before returning here. Likewise, a caption or logo already embedded in the photo stays part of the pixels and can be cut off by the crop. Use the original design project when those elements need to move independently. If no crop can retain the important content, select a different shape rather than accepting an image that no longer explains the subject.

Check detail after resizing, then test the real layout

The starting export uses JPEG at 90% quality and Light sharpening. A small input can be enlarged to exact dimensions, but the additional pixels do not create the detail of a larger original. Inspect faces, foliage, brickwork and text after exporting. Strong sharpening may add halos along rooflines or make noisy shadows harsher, so compare it with Off or Light rather than automatically raising it.

Download the result and view it where it will be used. A website may crop a wide hero differently on a phone, while a presentation might show the entire image. Check both the intended large display and small preview. Keep important content readable and make sure the crop supports any text placed beside or over it. The compressor processes the file locally, leaves the source unchanged and does not publish the image or turn it into a video.

Keep a full-frame source for the next design change

A later website redesign may need a taller crop or a smaller card. Return to the original photograph for those exports because the landscape delivery file no longer contains everything outside its saved frame. Clear filenames help distinguish a banner from a gallery copy. If a team member needs to change framing, share the appropriate original as well as the finished export. A cropper cannot recover an object that was discarded from the only remaining image.

Inspect the exported scene at the final display width before treating the new landscape composition as finished.

Questions people ask

Is 16:9 the right crop for every website banner?

No. Measure the actual layout and check its phone behavior. A banner may need another ratio or a separate phone composition.

Can the cropper rotate a tilted landscape?

No. It repositions a crop rectangle. Straighten or correct the source in a photo editor before exporting.

Can I keep the full image inside a 16:9 file with borders?

This tool does not add letterboxing or decorative padding. Fit within retains the full image in its original proportions; Exact size crops to the selected shape.
