Prepare the photograph before choosing a delivery size

A food photo's appearance comes mainly from the source: lighting, focus, composition and the food itself. This page cannot correct a color cast, brighten a dark plate or replace a dull background. Make those decisions in your photo editor and export an edited master before reducing it for a restaurant website, menu gallery or social post.

Keep that master separate from the compressed image. A square social tile, a portrait story and a wide menu banner can all require different framing. Fit within preserves the original photograph, while Exact size crops it to your selected shape. Inspect plate rims, utensils and garnish near the boundaries before approving a crop. The tool does not add a decorative border, extend the tabletop or generate missing food outside the original frame.

Compare delicate texture rather than only the overall color

The starting settings fit the image inside 1600 by 1600 pixels with JPEG output and Light sharpening. Treat that as an adjustable web-sharing example. A specific app, listing service or menu system may need something else. Select the right destination dimensions before chasing a very small file, and confirm that any text in the photograph is still useful at the final size.

Inspect crumbs, herbs, sauce edges and glossy highlights. Aggressive compression can smear fine texture, while strong sharpening can add bright outlines and make a natural surface look gritty. Compare Off and Light at the intended display size. A smoother background may tolerate more compression than a close view of a textured dish. Judge the difficult photograph in the set first rather than applying the settings from an easy, softly focused background to every plate.

Separate menu information from the photo itself

If a graphic combines food photography with prices or ingredients, those small letters become another quality requirement. A photographic JPEG may suit the dish but soften tiny overlaid text. Prefer readable text in the actual website or menu layout when you control it, and compare PNG output for a graphic whose sharp lettering matters more than file size. This converter cannot rewrite or enlarge only the words inside a flattened image.

Download a candidate and view it in the real menu or social draft. Check the phone screen, where a beautiful wide plate image may become a tiny strip. Choose a closer composition when that communicates the food better. Keep similar dishes together for batch processing, but review dark images, steam and reflective tableware individually. The conversion stays on your device and does not publish to a restaurant account or upload images to a processing service.

Compress a photo

Compare a textured dish and a smooth background

For example, test a crisp pastry with fine crumbs beside a smooth soup or glossy dessert. The pastry reveals lost texture, while the smoother surface reveals banding and harsh edge contrast. Compare both at the actual menu-card width. If a restaurant graphic includes a dish name and price, inspect those characters independently; a photo that looks appealing can still carry unreadable text. Retain the edited food photo without captions so a future menu update does not require recompressing old lettering. A separate source image and real layout text can make seasonal price or ingredient changes easier to maintain.

Questions people ask

Can this fix yellow lighting in a food photo?

No. It does not adjust white balance or color. Correct the lighting in a photo editor or retake the shot before making a smaller delivery copy.

Why does the food look gritty after sharpening?

The filter may be emphasizing texture and camera noise too strongly. Compare Off with Light at the final display size and avoid judging only a zoomed preview.

Should a menu graphic use JPG or PNG?

Try JPEG for a plain photograph and PNG for sharp graphic text when size permits. Inspect prices and ingredients on a phone before using a flattened menu image.
