Prepare a LinkedIn article cover before choosing its final crop

Start with a clean landscape export, then check the cover controls in your article editor. A feed image, article cover, and profile banner are different placements.

Do not substitute a profile banner for an article cover

An article cover introduces a piece of writing. It should communicate the topic without depending on the reader seeing a very wide profile layout. A personal background or company Page cover may contain the right brand colours but have the wrong composition for an article. Start with artwork intended for the article rather than repurposing a shallow banner blindly.

This page uses our 1920×1080 bounding box as a convenient starting export while preserving the original image proportions. It is not an asserted LinkedIn article requirement. Check the current article editor for its preferred shape, crop preview, and accepted file size before finalising the design.

Choose a main subject that remains meaningful if the editor trims a little from an edge. Photographs, simple illustrations, and a clear central idea are easier to adapt than posters packed with small text. Your headline already exists as real article text, so the cover does not need to carry a duplicate paragraph to explain the piece.

Prepare a flexible image from your master artwork

Open the original image and check what the Fit within setting does. It reduces a large source to fit inside the selected bounds without forcing a different aspect ratio. A smaller source is not enlarged to invent detail. If you need a precise cover rectangle after checking the article editor, choose an exact crop and review which parts are removed.

Inspect any existing lettering, fine illustration lines, and large smooth backgrounds after exporting. A JPEG is a useful default for photography, while artwork dominated by flat colour and text may deserve a PNG comparison. Make that comparison from the same source and at the same crop so the choice reflects the encode rather than an unrelated composition change.

Keep sharpening light. The aim is to preserve edge contrast after a resize, not to make the cover look crunchy. If a logo is already fuzzy in the master, obtain a clean design export. No compression setting can turn a screenshot of a logo into the original artwork.

Evaluate the cover with the headline and article preview

Upload the candidate in the article editor and inspect it beside the real title. Check that the subject does not compete with the headline, important details are not cropped, and the image makes sense without the full article being open. A cover that looks good in isolation can still feel repetitive or confusing when paired with a specific heading.

Review a draft preview on your phone if the editor offers one. Text embedded in the picture may become too small before the photograph itself looks soft. Reduce that wording in the source rather than raising the file size alone. Include meaningful information in the article body so the cover is not the only place where readers can find it.

Keep the original design and prepared image alongside your article draft. Future title changes may need a new composition, and using the source avoids recompressing yesterday's download. This tool prepares the static file locally; it does not publish articles, supply editorial artwork, change LinkedIn metadata, or guarantee a single crop across every article and feed surface.

If the article belongs to a regular series, compare the candidate with earlier covers alongside their headlines. Consistent framing can help the collection feel coherent without forcing every topic into exactly the same photograph.

Questions people ask

Are the starting bounds an official article cover size?

No. They are our preparation bounds. Confirm the current cover dimensions and crop in your own LinkedIn article editor.

Will Fit within crop my image?

No. It keeps the original proportions inside the selected bounds. Choose an exact crop only after deciding the shape you need.

Can this create an article image from a title?

No. Bring existing artwork or a photo. The tool resizes and compresses it without generating a new design.
