Choose a landscape composition when the relationship between subjects matters: a mountain ridge, a room, a building frontage, or people standing side by side. The width lets those elements stay connected. A wide export is less useful when the important subject is a small face surrounded by empty space, because that face becomes smaller when the photo is viewed on a phone.
This page starts with our 1080×566 pixel landscape preset. Treat that size as an export choice. A source with a different shape must lose some content to fill it. A very long panorama may lose the ends, while a normal camera photograph may lose sky and foreground.
Watch the horizon as you position the crop. An uneven horizon is more noticeable across a wide image. Straighten it in your photo editor before using this compressor, because resizing and sharpening do not level a photograph. Also check that a lamp, person, or building is not cut awkwardly at the outer edge. A clean frame is usually more useful than squeezing every available pixel into the post.
