A channel banner is unusual because the uploaded rectangle is not the rectangle every viewer sees. A photograph that looks balanced across a television can lose both its subject and its lettering in a narrower profile view. Pick artwork whose centre already explains the channel. Treat the outer area as supporting scenery, not the only place where your name appears.
YouTube's branding guidance recommends a 2560×1440 banner. Its quoted 1235×338 safe area applies to the smaller 2048×1152 minimum upload, so do not transfer those measurements unchanged onto a larger canvas. Use YouTube's device previews to judge the actual result.
If your design has a title embedded near an edge, fix the composition in the original design file before exporting. Moving the crop can reposition existing pixels, but it cannot move the title independently of the background. A landscape photograph with open space around the centre is usually easier to adapt than a tightly framed poster.
