Prepare a photo before importing it into Snapchat Memories

Use a deliberate crop for a sharing copy, and keep the original photo separately. This tool prepares an image on your device and does not manage your Memories backup.

Make a sharing copy without replacing the original

A photo prepared for a Snapchat story has a different purpose from an original you want to keep for the future. The sharing copy can use a crop and lighter file size that suit the post. The original remains valuable when you later need another shape, more detail, or a clean source for editing. Store them separately before you begin.

This page selects our 1080×1920 vertical preset for a story-shaped working export. It is not a backup format or a claim that every Memories import must use those dimensions. If retaining the full scene matters more than filling a tall frame, choose Custom and preserve the original proportions instead.

Snapchat's Memories help explains the camera roll import route. Check the controls available in your app. Preparing an image here does not place it in Memories, verify its backup, or change the way Snapchat stores your content after you choose to import it.

Crop around the moment rather than filling the frame blindly

Open the original image and inspect the vertical crop. A landscape family photo can lose people at the sides, while a portrait may need more room above the head. Move the crop deliberately and check every important face or object. If no crop keeps the moment intact, use a different fit rather than sacrificing the meaning of the photograph.

Compare the processed result around skin, hair, and smooth dark areas. JPEG can make the sharing copy manageable, but aggressive compression may turn subtle texture into patches. Light sharpening can help a resized edge; it cannot fix motion blur, missed focus, or a low quality source already saved through another app.

If the photo includes an existing caption or date, read it at normal phone size. The tool cannot move that text independently or add new lettering. Finish those changes in your original editor or with the controls available in Snapchat after import. Avoid assuming a larger output dimension alone makes a small caption readable.

Import and review using Snapchat's own workflow

Download the prepared image to a location accessible from your phone's photo workflow. Open Snapchat and use the relevant camera roll or Memories import controls. Inspect the selected image before confirming the next step so you do not accidentally choose an older candidate or the uncropped original when you intended the sharing copy.

Check the image in the view you plan to use for sharing. Interface overlays, captions, and editing controls may affect what remains visible. A finished export is only one part of the workflow, and Snapchat can process images further after they leave your device through the app.

Keep independent copies of important originals rather than treating this export or a preview as proof of a complete backup. Snapchat's help specifically advises checking that Memories are fully backed up before account or app changes. IGCOMPRESSOR does not inspect that state, transfer Memories between accounts, recover deleted photos, or authenticate a backup. It prepares a local image file, leaving import, storage, and publishing under your control in Snapchat.

For an older photo, retain the uncropped source even if the story-shaped version looks cleaner. Future use may need people or scenery outside the current frame, and another export cannot recover areas you discarded.

Questions people ask

Will this import the photo into Memories?

No. Download the prepared file and use Snapchat's camera roll or Memories import controls yourself.

Does this replace a Memories backup?

No. Keep important originals independently and check backup status in Snapchat's own controls.

Do I have to crop a landscape memory to a story shape?

No. Use Custom to preserve the original proportions if a vertical crop removes important people or context.
