Sending an image as a file can be useful when the recipient needs the prepared file rather than a photo optimised for quick chat viewing. That does not mean a compressed export is the same as the original camera file. If the task requires identical original bytes, do not process that original here. Send the untouched file through your chosen file workflow instead.
This page is for creating a deliberate sharing copy. It keeps the source proportions and starts with a high quality JPEG export without sharpening. The result is a newly encoded image. Its pixel appearance may remain close to the source, but its bytes, metadata, and file format can differ.
Separate those requirements before you begin. A client reviewing a photograph may want a manageable preview; a designer finishing the work may need the original master. A family member viewing on a phone may prefer the normal or HD photo route. The best preparation depends on that practical need, not just the smallest file size.
