Keep the words useful when reducing an image with text

A smaller file is only helpful if people can still read it. Start with a clean source and compare the smallest important characters after every resize.

Start from the original layout instead of a saved preview

A quote card, timetable, infographic or diagram is often better exported from its design application than captured as a screenshot. The original layout lets you choose readable type, spacing and a suitable export size. If all you have is a small image from a message, enlargement cannot restore letters that are already unclear. Ask for the original file when the content matters.

This page treats the words as pixels. It does not recognize, translate, rewrite or reflow them. It cannot enlarge only the text while leaving the rest of the image unchanged. Make those changes in the source editor before exporting. For information on a website, real HTML text is often more usable than embedding every instruction inside an image, especially when visitors need to zoom, search, copy or use assistive technology.

Choose a format and size that protect the critical characters

The initial settings keep pixels in PNG and turn sharpening off. PNG is a practical starting point for flat backgrounds and sharp text edges. It is not a guarantee that a tiny font will be legible, and it may produce a large download. The quality slider does not make PNG smaller. If you reduce dimensions, inspect the actual output rather than assuming the lossless format prevents resize damage.

Check punctuation, decimal points, thin stems, accented letters and closely spaced lines. These details can disappear before a bold heading shows an obvious problem. If the image includes a photograph behind the text, compare a JPEG or WebP copy carefully, but do not sacrifice readability to meet an arbitrary target. This tool uses a white background for those formats, which also matters when the source lettering sits on transparent pixels.

Review on a phone and provide accessible accompanying content

Open the export on a phone at the intended display size. A wide infographic can be technically sharp yet require constant zooming because the type is too small. Simplify the source layout, create separate readable panels in your design app or publish the information as real text when possible. This compressor does not split a diagram into slides or generate a carousel from a single image.

If the graphic is published on a website or social platform, include useful accompanying text and appropriate alternative text. Essential instructions should not depend entirely on a small raster image. For a form or submission with a strict cap, check the real requirement and retain enough resolution for any labels or codes to be checked. Download a candidate before processing the rest of a set, then inspect the smallest text in the actual destination. Processing stays local, and the original design file should remain your editable master.

Use punctuation as a practical failure check

Take a graphic with a date, a price and a small footnote, then inspect it after the first resize. Confirm that a decimal point has not disappeared, that accented characters remain distinct and that a thin divider has not merged into a line of text. These are concrete signs that the output still carries the intended meaning. If the main heading looks good but the footnote fails, increase dimensions or simplify the source rather than raising sharpening. A file is not ready just because its largest word remains readable. Keep the original layout so future corrections do not depend on editing rasterized letters.

Questions people ask

Does PNG guarantee readable text after a resize?

No. PNG avoids a lossy photo encode, but reducing the dimensions can still remove thin strokes and punctuation. Check the smallest important text in the actual output.

Can sharpening recover words from an unreadable image?

No. It changes contrast around existing edges and may create halos. Use a better source or redesign the text at a readable size.

Can this convert the image into editable text?

No. This is an image export tool, not OCR. Keep the source document or use a separate text-recognition workflow when you need editable words.
