Choose a vertical crop because it suits the photo

A portrait export is useful when a person, an object, or a tall scene is the main subject. It can retain the full length of a product or give a face more space than a landscape crop. The reason to choose it should come from the image itself, not from an assumption that a taller file guarantees better engagement.

This page uses our 1080×1350, 4:5 preset for X. Treat those dimensions as a consistent preparation choice rather than a promise about every timeline view. Posts can appear in different contexts, and attaching several images may change how the preview is arranged. Check the actual composer with the complete post before publishing.

Look at the story your crop tells. A close portrait may benefit from removing background clutter, while a full outfit needs enough room around hands and feet. If the crop removes the context that explains the image, use Custom to keep the original proportions rather than forcing the scene into a shape that no longer works.

Preserve useful detail without chasing a tiny file

Open the source and adjust the crop around the meaningful subject. Examine hair, fabric, product edges, and other detailed areas after the resize. They help you judge how much compression the image can tolerate. A smooth wall or a clear sky is useful too, because uneven patches can be easier to see there than in a busy scene.

The preset produces a JPEG with a practical file budget. A file that downloads quickly but damages the subject is not a good result. Compare the finished export against the original crop at a similar display size and keep enough quality for the detail that matters. Your output may be smaller than the nominal dimensions when the source is small or the budget requires it.

Use light sharpening only if it improves the resized edges. It cannot repair motion blur or missed focus. Stronger sharpening often makes skin and high contrast borders look harsh, so inspect those areas rather than judging the effect from background texture alone.

Review the complete post and its context

Download the portrait and add it to the draft post. Check the relationship between the caption and the image: explain essential context in text rather than embedding a paragraph into the photo. If you include meaningful writing inside the image, make sure it remains readable in the preview and provide the information in the post as well when possible.

For a multi-image post, inspect the arrangement of every attachment. A strong single portrait may be cropped differently when combined with other shapes. Prepare separate versions from the same source if you need a landscape first image or a tighter detail shot, rather than reusing the downloaded portrait as a new master.

After publishing, review the image at normal phone size. X controls the delivered image versions, so this export cannot guarantee that no later resizing or compression occurs. Keep the original photograph and your chosen crop for future updates. The tool performs the preparation locally and leaves publishing, account settings, and final post presentation in your own workflow.

For a picture of an object, keep the feature discussed in your post large enough to inspect. A carefully preserved background is less useful when the small defect, label, or detail you mention remains difficult to find.

Questions people ask

Is 1080×1350 mandatory for X portraits?

No. It is our 4:5 export choice. Review the current composer and choose another shape if it better preserves your photo.

Why does the preview change when I add another photo?

The platform can arrange multiple attachments differently from a single image. Inspect the full draft after adding all your photos.

Can sharpening fix a moving subject?

It can add edge contrast but cannot reverse motion blur. Use a sharper original frame when available.
