Resize digital illustrations without treating them like camera photos

Use a PNG starting point for linework, flat color and existing transparency. Compare other formats only when their tradeoffs suit the finished illustration.

Export the drawing from its original application first

A layered illustration project contains information that a flattened PNG or JPEG cannot retain. Keep that project, including the fonts, layers or vector shapes you need for editing. Export a raster copy at a useful size from the drawing application, then use this page when you need a smaller version for a portfolio, a message or a website.

This tool does not generate SVG, edit vector paths or rebuild layers from a finished image. It also does not create missing detail when a small sketch is enlarged. If the illustration includes crisp lettering, narrow strokes or repeated patterns, export enough pixels from the original project before compressing. A screenshot of the drawing window is a weaker starting point because it may include interface elements and reduce the artwork to the screen's displayed resolution.

Use PNG to keep existing alpha and stable graphic edges

This preset fits the image within 1920 by 1920 pixels, selects PNG and leaves sharpening off. The box is an example for sharing, so change it to match the actual display. Fit within preserves the full composition and does not enlarge a smaller input. PNG can preserve the source's existing transparency, which matters for cutouts and overlays.

The PNG quality slider does not reduce its file size. A smaller PNG here comes mainly from using fewer pixels, and that resize still changes the drawing. Check thin outlines, small eyes, textured brushes and gradients after reduction. Exact crop is useful only when you want to cut the composition to a chosen shape. It does not add a border around the drawing or extend a background outside the original image. Keep enough empty space in the source project if a layout needs it.

Compare an opaque delivery copy when the file is still too large

A complex illustration with textured brushes can produce a large PNG. If the destination accepts an opaque image, compare JPEG or WebP at the same dimensions. Both can change fine edges, and this tool flattens their exports onto white. Do not make that conversion for an overlay that must remain transparent. Look at the output on the intended page background, not only in a file picker.

For a portfolio, check the thumbnail and the full illustration separately. Tiny embedded captions may need to become real page text so they stay readable on a phone. For a social post, inspect how the app frames the image after it is added to the draft. Keep the PNG master and make the delivery export as a new file. Processing stays in your browser, and no server receives the artwork. A batch shares settings, so separate transparent assets from opaque previews before running it.

Test linework against the intended page background

A useful sample combines a thin dark outline, a soft brush texture and a semitransparent edge. Reduce it once, download the PNG and place it on the background used by the real portfolio. Look for disappearing strokes and uneven-looking edge transitions at normal size. If the illustration contains a small signature, confirm it remains legible rather than judging only the central figure. Return to the drawing project when a smaller display needs thicker lines or a simplified detail. Those are source-design decisions; repeated compression cannot make a complicated illustration behave like an icon designed specifically for a tiny slot.

Questions people ask

Can this compress my layered drawing file?

No. Export a supported raster image from the drawing app first. Keep the layered or vector project as the editable master.

Why did thin strokes disappear after resizing?

They may be too narrow at the new pixel size. Use larger dimensions or simplify the source design; stronger sharpening cannot reliably reconstruct the missing strokes.

Can I convert a transparent illustration to WebP here?

The current WebP export is opaque with a white background. Keep PNG when you need the illustration's existing transparency.
